Russia carried out its largest aerial assault of the war on Ukraine early Sunday, launching more than 100 missiles and drones at Kyiv and multiple regions across the country. Ukrainian officials said at least 12 people were killed and dozens more were wounded in the attack, which struck residential areas and critical infrastructure despite extensive air defense efforts.

Air raid alerts sounded across Ukraine as explosions were reported in the capital and other cities. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted many of the incoming projectiles, but officials said the scale of the barrage overwhelmed some defenses and caused widespread damage. Apartment buildings, energy facilities and other civilian infrastructure were among the sites hit.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the assault as a major escalation and renewed his call for stronger Western support, particularly additional air defense systems and interceptors. He said the attack underscored Ukraine’s urgent need for more protection against repeated long-range strikes.

The latest bombardment comes amid intensified fighting and renewed pressure on Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure. Emergency crews worked through the morning to search damaged buildings, treat the wounded and restore services in affected areas.
